Roman Samsonov

Roman Samsonov joined the WAM to advise on Private Equity investments in 2007. He is responsible for transactions execution on investments and exits (advised on investment in the pulp and paper sector). Roman also engaged in post-investment supervision of Fund’s portfolio company in financial sector. Previously, Mr. Samsonov worked for Valuation and Business Modeling Division of Ernst & Young where he lead and participated in more than 10 local and international projects. His sector expertise includes the financial, telecom, food retail, machinery, mining, oil & gas and chemical sectors. Mr. Samsonov started his career in the Audit and Accounts Department of local advisory boutique Energy Consulting assisting financial and tax audits for local mid-sized oil&gas and petrochemical businesses. Mr. Samsonov graduated from Moscow State University of Management with specialization on financial risk management and corporate finance.

Denis Cherkasov, Advisor

Denis Cherkasov has seven years of entrepreneurial and private equity experience. Previous positions include CEO and founder of a mid-size publishing house (successfully sold to a strategic investor) and investment executive position at UFG Capital Partners, where he was responsible for portfolio investments of USD $40m and pipeline deals. In 2008, Denis joined Jochen Wermuth at Wermuth Asset Management GmbH (WAM) to establish a dedicated PE fund and manage existing private equity investments, including debt restructuring and special situations.  Denis graduated from the economic faculty of Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO-University) and specialized on corporate governance studies while working on his Ph.D. in the Institute for the Economy in Transition (Egor Gaidar Foundation). Denis is a member of the National Association of Independent Directors of Russia and holds Director Certificate of the Institute of Directors in London (IoD).

Maarten van den Belt, Advisor

Maarten van den Belt worked as General Manager for VISA International in Moscow and as Chairman of the Board for WestLB Vostok in Russia.  During that time he managed to execute an organisational model change, improved staff efficiency and oversaw significant business growth. Prior to that he spent seven years at Raiffeisen: three years as Deputy General Manager in the Moscow office and four years as General Manager in London. During his employment at Raiffeisen Moscow, he managed operations through the 1998 crisis, successfully justifying the bank's presence when others withdrew. Before joining Raiffeisen, Mr. van den Belt spent eleven years with ING Bank in Amsterdam, London and Tokyo.
